Surfing is synonymous with Hawai’i; Hawaiians invented it. Lessons aren’t as difficult as you may think, and it’s fairly easy to master. Lahaina is a much better place to learn than South Maui.
Ancient Hawaiians invented surfing, and it is as big a part of Hawaiian culture today as ever. Learn how to surf, or take your skills to the next level, with a 2-hour lesson at Lahaina Harbor / Breakwall with ideal spots for both beginners and the more experienced. Run by the nephew of legendary Hawaiian surfer Titus Kinimaka, the Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy will pair you with highly trained and enthusiastic staff who will ensure a fun time out on the water and might even help you discover a new passion!
Interested in our Kaanapali Beach location instead? It doesn't generally have as long and reliable waves as the Lahaina town location, but this means you don't have to paddle out as far, and the viewing area for any observers is more convenient right from Kaanapali Beach. The time difference (2 hours vs. 1.5 hours) is just because it takes a bit longer to walk over to the beach in Lahaina, as well as to go out a bit further to catch waves; otherwise, you're catching a similar amount of waves at both.
