Pineapple Farm Tour

Age 13+:  $65
Age 2-12:  $55

A central part of the Hawaiian economy during the past two centuries, pineapples have a long and established history on the tropical island of Maui. See a pineapple operation first-hand with this educational, entertaining, and tasty 90 minute tour of the Maui Gold Pineapple Company fields and facilities.

Located on the beautiful slopes of Haleakala volcano with panoramic views of Central and West Maui, the 1,350 acres showcases pineapples at different stages of their growth cycle. You’ll learn about the entire process, from planting to cultivation to processing to packaging, and you’ll taste pineapples along the way. Truly understand where your food comes from, learn the right way to check for ripeness and to cut a pineapple, and take home a one-of-a-kind premium Maui Gold Pineapple with you (included, airplane-friendly)!

COVID-19 UPDATE: Guest and staff safety is of paramount importance, and the tour has implemented multiple best practices, including reducing the tour size by 50%, requiring face masks at all times (except tastings of course), enhanced cleaning, contactless check-in, and daily wellness checks for all staff.

Distillery Tour (optional)

[The distillery tour is temporarily suspended during COVID]

Extend the experience with a 30 minute guided tour of the distillery next door, for only $10/adult. Hali’imaile Distilling Company uses local ingredients and a unique distilling process to create authentic Hawaiian spirits, including the only vodka in the world made from pineapples, whiskey flavored with brown sugar, coffee, or chocolate coconut, tropical vodkas such as pineapple-orange-guava and chocolate-macadamia nut, and a rum developed by legendary rocker and Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. You will receive 3 tastings per person (from over 10 spirits to choose from), a complimentary shot glass, and a 10% off discount at the onsite retail store.

Lunch (optional)

[The lunch add-on is temporarily suspended during COVID]

During weekdays after the 9:30 am tour ends around 11 am, add on lunch for $25/person at the next door Hali’imaile “General Store”, a popular local restaurant since 1988 and visited by celebrities such as Michael Jordan and Dustin Hoffman. It features eclectic American food with Asian overtones — the essence of modern Hawaii food. You will receive 1 of 4 entree options (crab pizza & salad, shrimp salad, grilled chicken caesar salad, or BBQ pork sandwich), a sorbet dessert, and a drink (coffee, tea, or soda).

TravelShack's Choice

Why we recommend this option over others
  • It's the only active Maui pineapple operation on the island, and one of only 2 in the State
  • Great opportunity to visit Upcountry and experience a different Maui perspective; convenient for combining with visit to Haleakala volcano and/or North Shore

Informative, excellent guide, great location with gorgeous views from the higher fields, nice to hear that efforts were in place with more underway for sustainable practices and use of biodegradable materials. The taste of the pineapple sampled in the field was delicious - Maui Gold is special.

Excellent and very informative. We highly recommend it and have been telling everyone about it. The guide (I forget his name) did a lovely job singing to the couple celebrating their anniversary.

Moon Guidebook:

Upcountry is Maui’s little secret

You will learn a lot by going out on the Maui Pineapple Tour

Hali’imaile General Store: Recommended. Elegant gourmet food that is always healthy and fresh, and the portions are plentiful.

Maui Revealed Guidebook:

This part of the island has green, rolling hills and cool mountain air, and it’s definitely worth visiting.

Hali’imaile General Store: Ono (standout). The food is very good and well-conceived.

Lonely Planet Guidebook:

Hali’imaile General Store: Must-Visit Recommendation. The old general store has been turned into one of Maui’s top restaurants. The culinary sorceress behind this destination dining spot is Chef Bev Gannon, who was one of the original forces behind the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement.

Fodor's Guidebook:

Upcountry is a hidden gem and is well worth at least a day or two of exploring.

Hali’imaile General Store remains a culinary destination after more than a quarter century
