Pricing & Availability

Experience the traditional mode of transport of outrigger canoeing (“wa’a”). The ancient Polynesians who originally settled Hawaii crossed thousands of miles of ocean in these graceful canoes. These vessels still hold a special place in Hawaiian culture, and outrigger canoe racing is the State sport of Hawaii and widely offered in high schools throughout the Islands.

On this 1 hour canoe ride, you will paddle with up to 5 others (or you can do a private charter) and the guide as the steersman through the calm clear waters of Kailua Bay. You’ll hear stories about the role of canoeing in Hawaiian culture, some of the local landmarks, and the rich history of the area. There’s also a good chance you’ll see spinner dolphins, possibly even doing their trademark leaps in the air.

Eden was a great stearman! She was informative and fun. The bay was calm and she was very patient with the nervous person in our group. Definitely recommend!

Kailua Bay is a nice place to launch — the water here is especially calm and the surroundings are historic and scenic.
