Overview

Experience the lush scenery on the northern end of the island, including sweeping views of rolling green hills, the vast Pacific Ocean, and majestic seacliffs. On this guided hike through tropical rainforest on a private nature reserve, you’ll come across multiple picturesque waterfalls. Your knowledgeable guide will enhance your adventure with interesting information about Hawaiian culture, history, and agriculture. You’ll see a traditional taro field and learn how this ancient crop is grown and harvested. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to pick and taste fresh guava off the trees and exotic plants such as kava and ginger flowers. The climax for many is a (optional) swim in a idyllic freshwater waterfall!

Lunch is served at a private spot overlooking famous Pololu Valley with its iconic cliffs and a black sand beach. When not transported in a modern Mercedes-Benz van, you’ll have fun offroading on a 6-wheeled former military vehicle.

Note: You can combine this tour with thrilling ziplining above the trees, also in North Kohala, by choosing the Zip & Dip option here.

TravelShack's Choice

Why we recommend this option over others
Review by TravelShack Team
  • The most reputable and longest running small group tour operator on the Big Island (almost 25 years)
  • Hike is on private land that the tour has exclusive access to, so no other tour groups or buses are around
  • Private lunch spot has unmatched views of famous Pololu Valley
  • You’ll learn a ton from expert guides versus any hike you do alone
  • This tour is focused on being in nature, not stuck on a tour bus. Many other waterfall tours just have brief stops for a quick photo.
